Core languages

For German, French, Italian, English and Spanish we offer the following three products:

The one-man rule

Specialist translation without quality control* One person translates. Ideal for customers who have their own revisors or wish to add the finishing touches themselves. Or for people who just want an overview of the content.

The two-man rule

Specialist translation with in-house proofreading and quality control** One person translates and one person proofreads. Suitable for publications, contractual texts and texts in which complicated matters must be reproduced accurately in terms of content and in perfect language. If you have any questions, our proofreaders will answer them personally.

The three-man rule

Specialist translation with in-house editing and quality control** One person translates, one person proofreads and one person edits. Does your translation require some extra finishing? Does the text need to be rewritten to suit a particular target group? This is a job for our editors. We have in-house editors for German, French, Italian, English and Spanish.

* ‘Without quality control’ means that the translation is not proofread by us. There is no right of recourse in the case of errors.

** ‘With quality control’ means that the translation is checked for spelling, grammar and punctuation, and the texts are compared with regard to content, terminology, style and completeness by our in-house proofreaders. Under the three-man rule, our in-house team both revise and edit your translation.

Advertising texts

Translation versus transcreation

Contact / Quotation

When we translate advertising texts, we practically create the text all over again, because we transfer the idea from one language into another. What some call transcreation is simply a translation to us, our bread and butter.

This service is billed by time.

Notarisations

A service that simply goes with translations

Contact / Quotation

We take care of notarisations, legalisations and apostilles in Switzerland and Germany for judicial decisions, pharmaceutical patent applications, marriage certificates, etc.

As our customer, you receive everything from a single source, saving you time and money, and often sparing your nerves as well, as we hack our way through the jungle of red tape for you. That’s service – and that’s what the S in USG stands for.

Expertise

Our language skills are complemented by our expert knowledge

Language shopping

University degrees, professional experience and specialist knowledge are just a few of the many qualifications that a USG translator must possess. The art of selecting the right translator for the right text is crucial. This is only possible if you know inside out the strengths and weaknesses of the specialist translators working on your texts. And we do. A glance at our list of references shows that renowned companies from a wide variety of sectors can confirm our proficiency.

But it’s not just about choosing the right translator – the right tool is also important. Our tool of choice is SDL Trados Studio, which is the brain or the memory, if you like, for your company language. It ensures that in your texts, a set screw is always a hexagon socket screw and never an Allen screw. In other words, we adapt the translation to your company by adopting existing terminology.

Regional

In terms of language, Ticino is as far removed from Rome as the Pope is from Scientology

Language shopping

Translation requires sensitivity, and especially so in Switzerland. Someone from Fribourg or Geneva doesn’t want any Parisian French, and people in Lugano and Bellinzona love their own language more than the Italian of Dante. A text should smell like home. And this is exactly how our experts write.

This also applies to other languages and regions. We differentiate between British English and American English. Or between the varieties of Portuguese spoken in Portugal and in Brazil, respectively. Our translators come from the regions in question and know the peculiarities involved. You can take our word for it.

Terminology

Even without a style guide or terminology list, we will adapt the translation to your company by analysing existing texts. We can give you more information about this over the telephone.

Corporate language

Every company has its own language automatically developing over time. We will help you to standardise it to ensure that everyone in your company is speaking the same language. If you wish, we can jointly establish this process. Just ask our experts.
